COCKTAILS & CONTROVERSY AT CREATIVE TIME BENEFIT

This year’s Creative Time Ball took its theme and title, “Flaming Youth,” from London’s iconic Chelsea Arts Ball, a costume gala created to raise money for the arts. The non profit organization, now in its 37th year, took the concept and ran with it, decorating their downtown space with wonderfully wild hexagon-shaped 3D video installations.  They handed-out costume accessories made by creative agency We Came In Peace and installed a body painting station wo-manned by Shantell Martin.  Also, artist Jacolby Satterwhite pirouetted through the crowd like he’d gone crazy while wearing an incredible video-projecting robot spacesuit number.
In between fits of dancing to DJ Mia Moretti, we chatted with the Lake and Stars’ Nikki Dekker and Maayan Zilberman, who’ve been the subject of controversy thanks to their latest campaign.  The images, featuring a beautiful mother-daughter team posing in TL&S’ sublime lingerie, haven’t been welcomed with open arms.  “It’s been pretty crazy,” Dekker told us. “[The mother and daughter] were very sweet about the whole thing,” she continued.  “She sent a bunch of them to us,” she said of the critical letters the mother received. “We got a good laugh out of it, honestly,” Dekker told us, just before selecting a slice of pizza dangling from a hook attached to a long pole a couple of staffers were passing by with.
Creative Time’s commitment to public art (and other fascinating culinary treats) has been unwavering since its inception in 1974, and the innovative and extraordinary parties they throw have added a vital cultural spark in recent years. Art and fashion world darlings feted the night away, including Mariko Munro, Carlos Quirarte, John Neidich, Mariyln Minter, Maayan Zilberman, and Daphne Javitch.  We look forward to their next bash!
